In the ever-evolving world of social media, competition is fierce, and WhatsApp is not one to be left behind.

In a bid to catch up with popular messaging app Telegram, WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature called “Channels” with its next update.

This move follows Instagram’s recent acquisition of Channels, which offers a way of providing information to users.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Channels are currently being tested for iOS beta users as part of version 23.8.0.75.

This feature will allow users to get important information from people they subscribe to for information. WhatsApp is reportedly planning to rename the Status section as “Updates” and introduce Channels underneath it.

However, unlike one-to-one messaging on WhatsApp, Channels won’t be end-to-end encrypted.

Nevertheless, privacy will remain a priority, and personal information like phone numbers won’t be visible on subscribed channels.

WhatsApp will also ensure that users have control over their choice and privacy when it comes to joining channels.

Although the feature is still in development, it is expected to roll out soon to Android and iOS beta users before a stable public release.

Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting development.
